Sotce, what do you eat when you’re sick?
Bananas, a fizzy drink with lemon, roti or soft bread, rice with salt and butter, raspberry sorbet, herby broth with an avocado half bobbing around in it like a half moon, boiled carrots and parsley, hot tea, sliced cheddar on crackers
Hello, Sotce. My question has to do with food offerings.I got a buddha statue at a thrift store and I made a food offering. What do you suggest I do with the food, how much do I leave it…?
Apples and oranges are great, as well as rice, milk and honey, and tea. I would make something nice and pretty, something that feels like an abundant blessing or a special treat. You can be creative and silly and sweet with this. After placing it at the shrine for a while, make sure that it doesn’t go to waste. If it’s something an animal would like you can offer it to the animal with a prayer. If it’s something you would like you can eat it too, imagine that you are the buddha and that every bite that you take is giving you the strength and courage to benefit all beings.
Sotce, what's your favorite vegetable right now?
As soon as I read this I imagined a big plate of crunchy steamed okra. I've been trying to go by the first thing that pops into my head. I also like carrots.
Sotce, how do I look at food as something to nourish rather than as something to be afraid of?
Do something that will make you human for it; a long walk or an exercise class or swimming, my favorite. Eat easy things like yogurt and fruit and honey and toast.
Sotce, how do I get out of a rut? I've been laying in bed dissociating and binge eating for a week straight.
This time, like any other, is important. You are becoming who you are. All I can ask of you is to be brave and face your pain, look right at it, go deep and understand it. I think the most you can make of this is knowing it as well as you can. as you deepen your experience of yourself you will deepen in your wisdom and your compassion for others. it will end when it’s ready to, but there’s something you need to see to here.
Other than that, be kind with yourself, understand what you’ve been through and that space and sigh and pause is so necessary for movement and growth. Hydrate and eat and sleep in clean sheets.
Sotce, do you have a favorite kind of tea?
Lately tulsi.
Green tea before a party.
And hot water boiled with ginger lemon and honey.
Sotce, what meal brings you joy during perilous times?
My demon loves grilled cheese.
Sotce, is there a food you crave while menstruating? For me personally it's pickles.
Tomatoes with salt, cottage cheese, jam, chocolate, boiled eggs with soft yolks.
Sotce, what is a habit I should start?
Drink more water.
Sotce, I don’t like eating. It’s often a burden to my lightness.
